Final Note from the retiring B5 Chairman

October marks three years since I took over the role of Banstead Five Chairman. From October All Saints’ takes over the Chairmanship. It was a challenge I felt I needed and St. Paul’s needed a volunteer so with Father Damian’s encouragement St. Paul’s had the reins for three years. Of course the B5 executive is a team and my thanks go to everyone who takes part, especially the Clergy. Together with a great secretary in Susan Major we got through the business in hand. I can’t claim to have enjoyed all of those committee meetings but that’s the joy of committees where different people have their own ideas.

Of course it’s not for me to judge whether the last three years have achieved what B5 needs but it isn’t for the want of trying. One of the joys of B5 is that we meet on a regular basis for Services which I enjoy attending and warmly recommend to you. The Lent courses are also an enjoyable way of meeting people from the other Churches, sharing views on different topics. Following on from last year we have arranged a programme of meetings and talks for autumn/ winter months.

The B5’s Open Door coffee shop is still a great success and our thanks must go to all the volunteers who work in the café. This is the main source of income for B5 activities; without it, the B5 Youth would not be able to do what it does.

I wish Richard Hagon, our new Chairman from All Saints’ every blessing for the challenges ahead. As I will be one of St Paul’s representatives I will still be supporting B5 in the coming years. I would like to thank you all for the beautiful bouquet and card I received at the end of Holiday Fun Week.

Ann Phillips.
